DISCOVER THE ESPACE CREATIF CARAN D’ACHE

The Espace Créatif Caran d'Ache, located at Plateforme 10, in the heart of Lausanne's museum district, is a laboratory for artistic expression that celebrates creativity and the transmission of knowledge—core values of the Maison.

Caran d'Ache invites both Swiss and international artists, giving them carte blanche to transform the walls of this unique space. Whether for residencies, exhibitions, or events, the arcades made available to them become a playground for ephemeral works, reflecting the complete freedom granted to the artists. Illustration, painting, installation, and even writing—at Caran d'Ache, art knows no limits.

Committed to supporting local players, Caran d’Ache also takes part in major cultural events at Plateforme 10—such as La Nuit des Musées, La Nuit des Images, and the BDFIL Comic Festival and the Booklovers Literary Festival.

Every month, the Espace Créatif welcomes a different artist as part of the Creative Class by Caran d’Ache workshops. Open to all skill levels, these creative sessions provide a unique opportunity for participants to learn as the artist shares their techniques and expert tips in an inspiring, hands-on environment.

Raining Diamonds On Jupiter

Guided by a practice rooted in playfulness, and the joyful confusion of being human, British artist David Shillinglaw invites viewers to step into a space where scientific truth meets poetic imagination. Created during his residency at the Espace Créatif Caran d’Ache, Raining Diamonds on Jupiter draws inspiration from the strange and wondrous facts of our cosmos. 
From the perspective of our tiny pale blue dot, Earth, how do we make sense of phenomena that stretch the limits of our comprehension? What does it mean to be human in a universe that is still unfolding?
Inspired by surreal scientific facts and guided by curiosity, Shillinglaw invites us to remain open-minded, and embrace the mystery, because if it really is raining diamonds on Jupiter… what else is possible?

ISAR’24 (13.01-13.02.2025)

Following a month-long artist residency, ISAR'24 showcased the work of five artists brought together by Caran d'Ache ambassador. Discover how they made the Espace Créatif their own, using it as a canvas to express their unique artistic worlds. Their diverse approaches offer a fresh perspective on works ranging from illustration to figurative and abstract art, all created using a wide variety of Caran d’Ache techniques and mediums.

Designed as an immersive exhibition, Cosmic Blue takes visitors on a cosmic and poetic adventure, celebrating art, creativity, and dreams. Guests are invited to journey through galaxies of light and imagination, where they encounter a stunning mural by Swiss artist CRBZ, encouraging them to entrust their deepest wishes to the universe. The experience culminates in a mesmerizing shower of stars and glowing galaxies.

DRAWING FUTURES - PLAYFUL CREATIVE ASSISTANTS (15-24.05 2024)

Created in collaboration with the Haute École d'Art et de Design (HEAD), Drawing Futures brought together four interactive artworks developed by students from the Master’s in Media Design program. The exhibition explored new frontiers between art, design, and technology, while remaining rooted in Caran d'Ache's unique identity and craftsmanship. For the first two days of the exhibition, Caran d'Ache invited French artist Arnaud Pfeffer for a special live performance, where he blended drawing with mechanical tools, pushing creative boundaries and revealing the poetic essence of industrial production.

RYLSEE 2023 (14.09.2023)

To celebrate the launch of the Creative Nomade Set, Caran d’Ache gave carte blanche to Swiss artist RYLSEE, who played a key role in developing the set. Inspired by the urban environment and his boundless creativity, RYLSEE transformed the four arcade windows into a living artwork, reinterpreting architectural elements, buildings, signs, and urban furniture in his signature style. During the launch event, he performed a live painting session, offering the audience a rare chance to witness his creative process in action.

LE CHAMP DES POSSIBLES (15.03-23.04)

Longtime friends, Jon Monnard, Caran d'Ache Haute Écriture ambassador and Vevey-based illustrator Fichtre came together for a unique residency at the Espace Créatif entitled Le Champ des Possibles [The filed of possibilities]. Through a blend of experimentation and artistic reflection, their collaboration resulted in a work combining words and drawings, accompanied by an immersive sound installation.
